I want to appear for UPSC exam please do suggest me which graduation should i pursue which field will by beneficial for UPSC ?
Any degree or graduation/post-graduation in any subject is alright. For higher education, one should always pursue the subject which one finds interesting and is comfortable with. Academic career and interest should not be compromised for an uncertain and highly competitive career in civil service.
If you find physics or chemistry really exciting, please go for that. I always feel a good science student has greater flair and ability to write precise answers in a logical and objective manner.
First of all, if you think that you want to be an IAS then I will suggest you to go for Bachelor In Arts.
You can take majors Political science or sociology.
This subjects help one to crack any government exams like UPSC, SSC CGL and State Public Comission Exams and RRB too.
This subjects are very informative and easy to understand.
Cheers !!
Hello Siddhi, See For UPSC prelims subjects need to be covered - Paper 1 - History, science and tech., art & culture, economy, polity, geography, environment, and current affair. Paper 2 - CSAT (Comprehension, aptitude, decision making questions)... Whereas Mains has total 9 paper (1 essay paper, 1 Hindi & 1 English paper, 4 GS paper, and 1 Optional paper with two paper (paper I & II))...
So, I would prefer BA (honors) in any subject (Polity/history/geography/economy/public administration/sociology and more) which you can take as an optional subject becoz the optional paper always been scoring paper. It consists of 500 marks. Other paper you can prepare yourself from the books and official websites...

For IAS preparation it would be good if you pursue your BA in the subjects like History, Public Administration , Economics , Constitution & Geography. And among these I think Geography & Public Administration are most popular optional subjects for the mains and account for the 50% shares in the final mains result. Infact UPES university of Dehradun has come up with an special IAS oriented BA program for students to study BA in Public administration along with IAS coaching & test preparation. This clearly signals that most of IAS aspirants are preferring this subject in their BA. You can check out this university for your BA as recently I've been hearing a lot about this. Good luck :)
You know what I also belong to science stream
My mains was cleared( rank was not good though)
Neet was cleared, percentage was good
But I opt for Political science because I also wanted to clear UPSC
Even nowadays humanities is so popular that there's a need of teachers for humanities
So I will suggest you to opt for Political science hons.
But also think twice and thrice, okay
Goodluck
