I want to be an engineer, which entrance exams should I write?
An engineer is a person who uses science,technology and mathematics to solve problems, improving our work, travel, lifestyle, communication and health. An engineer is someone who uses his thinking and analytical skills with a touch of science to solve large scale problems. As an engineer, one should be Up-to-Date with the latest trends in technology and invention. One should be able to think, not just quickly but also effectively. An engineer's job can be a boon to the development of a particular sector. An engineer is one with innovative problem solving techniques and sharp observation skills. The undergraduate courses in various streams may help one to prepare for the same. However, additional efforts, dedication and the will for betterment always proves to be a supplement.
Eligibility Criteria for engineering
You have to fulfill certain conditions put up by the educational board . If one cannot meet the requirements mentioned by the education board, he/she will not be able to go ahead with the application and candidates dream of becoming an engineer may remain a dream.
A. 12th Grade Examination:
For B.E/B.Tech(4 year program) - Candidates should have passed class 12th from a recognised educational board with Physics,Chemistry and Mathematics or in some cases *Biology too with 50% aggregate.(might vary)

B. ENTRANCE EXAMS:
Entrance exams are conducted throughout our country for the admission of engineering aspirants provided they fulfill the criteria (required percentage in PCM). If you are keen to pursue engineering as as career, here is a list of the entrance exams which you should appear for:
1. National Level Exams
• JEE MAIN - It is one of the most popular engineering entrance exams .It is conducted by the National Testing Agency( NTA ) twice a year and is known as the Joint Entrance examination. It is a very competitive exam in the country and lakhs of students give this every year. Qualification of this exam with cutoffs given by the institutes will give you admission to NITs and after passing JEE Advanced along with the required cutoffs you are eligible for admissions into IITs , IIITs ,NIITs,GFTIs.
• JEE ADVANCED - This exam can be only given by the candidates who have less than 2,50,000 ranks in JEE MAIN and after you clear JEE Advanced with exceptionally good ranks you are eligible for admission to Indian Institute of Technology's (IITs). They are the best institutes in India to study engineering but you have to work tooth and nail for the entrance exams to get admitted there.
2) University Level Entrance Exams
IITs and NIITs may be some of the best institutes to pursue engineering, however, the nation-wide competition and less no of seats may dishearten many young aspirants. Nevertheless, there are some of the best private institutes too, which are prestigious like many NIITs and IITs. These institutes conduct their private examinations for admissions into their own campuses.
• BITSAT - BITS admission test
Birla Institute of Technology and Science is a private and a deemed university which gives a world class education to its students.The BITSAT is a online computer based entrance test which on successful completion gives admission to UG engineering courses at campuses, i.e. BITS Pilani, Goa Campus or Hyderabad campus.
• · VITEEE - Vellore Institute of Technology conducts the engineering entrance exam named VITEEE for the admissions into B.Tech courses in their Vellore,Bhopal,Andhra Pradesh and Chennai campuses.This exam is conducted once a year and is an online computer based test.
• Lovely Professional University National Entrance and Scholarship Test (LPUNEST)- Lovely Professional University conducts this exam and it is held to admit candidates for the various courses available in the university LPUNEST is conducted once a year and it is well popular among candidates from the northern part of our country. NRI and Foreign national candidates can also apply for the exam.

Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research Aptitude Test (IISER Aptitude Test) - The Government of India has established IISERs at Berhampur , Bhopal , Kolkata , Mohali , Pune , Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati to integrate and promote interdisciplinary science education and research.Candidates who enroll and successfully clear the cutoffs of the IISER Aptitude Test are eligible for admissions into the 5 yr integrated BS -MS program.
• SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam(SRMJEEE) -SRM Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed University) conducts this exam for admission to UG courses in Engineering ,It is a common exam for their all campuses in Tamil Nadu, Amravati, Sikkim and Delhi. SRMJEE does not have negative marking for attempting answers incorrectly which makes it a choice for candidates. Seat allotment will be done on the basis of candidate's performance in the entrance exam/ candidate's ranks, choices locked by the candidates and availability of seats.
• Manipal Entrance Test (MET) - Manipal Institute of Technology ,Manipal Karnataka is a very reputed college providing high class education with good placement opportunities since 1957. The Manipal Entrance Test is a prerequisite.
• Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University Admission Test (SAAT) - Siksha 'O' Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar is a deemed university and is recognised by AICTE,They offer many programs that are accredited by NAAC and have a great infrastructure and teaching. SAAT exam is required which is a 2 hour online/offline exam .
(3) State level Engineering Entrance Exams: The efforts required to crack the above exams are painstaking and require focus. The fee structure can put a strain on many pockets.The colleges that are under the umbrella of government Universities in metropolitan cities have state of the art facilities and can be good choices for education. Every state has its own Engineering entrance exam .
