First of all, the job of collector includes recovering overdue payments on accounts, tracking debtors down by phone or mail and helping them to make payments and encouraging them to find alternative payment methods.

The highest salary of a Collector in India is approximately 167028 per month and the lowest salary is Rs 5794 per month.

In order to become a collector, you need to qualify the civil services exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission(UPSC). First you need to qualify CSAT(Civil Service Aptitude Test). After qualifying this test, you can apply for UPSC exam.

In order to be eligible for CSAT, you have to be a citizen of India. You must be a graduate and must hold a Bachelor’s degree like MBBS, B.E. etc from a recognized University. Maximum age limit for general category is 32 years, for OBC is 35 years, for SC/ST is 37 years and for PWD is 42 years.

After UPSC exam, you can become a collector after facing an interview.

You should have an in-depth knowledge of History, Constitution, International relations, economy, ethics, Environmental science and you can take any subject in your graduation. You need to read NCERT of 5th to 12th standard.

In order to become a collector you need to follow the mentioned career path:

• The process for becoming a collector starts with giving the civil services examination which is UPSC , a student from any stream be it arts, science and commerce you are eligible to appear for the examination.
• also in your graduation subjects such as history, political science, economics , geography will be beneficial for future in order to have knowledge during UPSC preparation.
• also your age should be between 21 (graduation is compulsory to appear for UPSC)  to 30 years considering that you belong to general category.

Also instead of appearing for UPSC you may also give state public service commission examination which will help you to become a basic officer first and after that you will have to work, gain experience in order to become district collector officer, so you may say that this is an indirect path .
