The members of the Indian Election Commission who are in charge of holding free and fair elections in India are known as election commissioners.

Most of the election commissioners are retired IAS officers who have made a name for themselves in their own industries. These are people who are really important. The President of India appoints them.  There are three commissioners on the commission: the chief commissioner of India and two other commissioners. A two-thirds majority in both the Loksabha and Rajya Sabha is required for the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner from office due to an individual's misbehavior or incapacity. On the Chief Election Commissioner's advice, the President of India has the authority to remove additional commissioners.
