IAS exam provides a level playing field to all the students with different streams so there is no perfect subject combination that can guarantee success. It's totally about your interest. If you are interested in commerce and want to keep it as a backup option it's a good idea. To excel in upsc exam there are arts subjects like history,geography,economics,sociology have to be studied in detail which form a major chunk of GS1 GS2 GS3 papers.

Commerce is a good optional subject as many toppers have preferred it.

Its totally based on aspirants interests and background. So there's no perfect subject combination.

Hope you are doing great ! If you want tk become an IAS then you should not look for any particular diploma or degree or other courses because there are many examples in the history of upsc cse that many people from different streams and background have cleared the exam with good rank.So don't think that someone will better than you by choosing a particular stream .All aspirants have to do same hardwork.

You can prepare for the IAS exam even with the commerce degree. You must have done your graduation in any particular field.

You should however start picking up the books you studied from Class 6 - Class 12 and revising them thoroughly as they form a major part of your Preliminary & Mains Examinations.
