Hello there
You have taken a very nice and tough decision but with continuous effort and dedication everything's possible. So basically to become an IAS officer or you say to be eligible to give upsc cse exam you need a graduation degree from any recognised university.
So it doesn't matters whether you are from humanities background or something else. Do whatever suits you well. Do whatever you like.
Hope it helps!
Thank you!
Hi,
It is not possible to become an IAS Officer right after completing 12th standard. In order to become an IAS Officer, you must apply for CSE exam conducted by the UPSC. You must also crack the exam (preliminary, mains and interview) in order to get selected for the training.
In order to become a IAS officer you should complete your graduation. You can choose to do BA (Hon.) or BA Political Science. History, etc.
Below is the eligibility criteria to appear for IAS exam
1- The minimum age to appear for IAS Exam is 21 years. This means that the candidate must have at least 21 years of age on 1st August of that given year when the exam is held.
2- Upper age limit for General category is 32 years.
3- The number of attempts for IAS exam: General Category 6 attempts till 32 years of age. The number of attempts for IAS exam: OBC: 9 attempts till 35 years of age. The number of attempts for IAS exam: SC/ST: unlimited attempts till 37 years of age.
I would recommend that you go through the syllabus of the UPSC thoroughly and assess which is subject or subjects are best suited for you. This is the right time to begin your preparation. Depending on the syllabus and the marks which one can score, you can assess which option is best for you. You can through the question papers of previous years also. This will also give you an idea about making the right choice. There a lot of students from science background who switch over to humanities subjects while preparing for the civil services. Among the popular ones are public administration, sociology, political science.
Hope this information helps you.
Good Luck.
