In order to become IPS Officer you need to appear for UPSC Civil Service Exam, for this you need to attain 21 years age and should have passed Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognized university, you can also apply in the final year, see there's no restriction in terms of belonging to any specific stream for UPSC, if you're not absolutely sure of this exam and have other aspirations such as engineering, medical or alike then even after passing our from these fields you'll be eligible, there are many aspirants from these backgrounds who have had few years of work experience in their field and later on prepared for UPSC and further qualified as well, if you're wholly and solely focused on cracking this exam only, then the earlier you start your preparation the better it is. in that case choosing humanities subjects at graduation level can perhaps help you to a great extent, subjects such as political science, public administration, history, geography, economics etc.
UPSC is conducted in three stages namely Prelims, Mains and Interview, first level is MCQs based one, its numbers aren't added in the final list, second stage is subjective paper where you'll be writing for nine papers, this two are further followed by Personality Test/Interview.
