Don't Miss: Best Online MBA courses by Top Universities
Some of the top B-schools in the world like MIT, Harvard, University of Chicag0 (Booth) and alike are located in the US. Therefore, if you are looking at US then that's definitely a good choice.
To answer your question, first, for you to pursue MBA in any stream it is not required of you to have pursued a Bachelors degree from any specific subject , therefore, the choice of your program in your Bachelors is totally upto you but you should note that what really matters while applying for MBA abroad, in any University across the globe, is that the College/ University where you have studied previously enjoys a good recognition . Since, some of the Colleges in India do not particularly have a UGC accredition, it makes it difficult for students from such background to apply anywhere abroad. It lowers their chances, therefore, one major eligibility criteria is for you to have a BA/B.Tech/BSc or any other degree from a good college.
The B-schools you can target in the US along are as follows -
1. Harvard Business School - Ranked world No.1
2. MIT Managment Sloan School - Ranked World No. 4
3. University of Pennsilvania - Ranked World No. 5
4. Stanford University - Ranked World No. 6
5. University of California, Berkeley - Ranked World No. 11
Top B-Schools in the UK -
1. London Business School - Ranked World No. 2
2. University of Cambridge - Ranked Worls No. 7
3. University of Oxford - Ranked World No.8
4. London School of Economics and Political Science - Ranked World No.9
The basic requirement for you to apply in US includes -
(a) A 4 year undergraduate degree or its equivalent (in terms of credits given) 3 year international degree. This is because the US followd a 4 year undergrad system and therefore requires the international applicants to have the same (as in the case of engineering/law or other 4 year long courses in India) or a 3 year degree (like for exampe any other Bachelors degree - economics/Media/English etc, in India)
(b) A high GRE/GMAT Score - if you are planning to sit for a GMAT exam then you need to understand that for a college like Harvard you need an equally high score of 750+ to brighten your chances. Same goes for GRE so please target for a score above 325/330.
(c)TOEFL/IELTS or PTE Test if you come from a non-English speaking country like ours.
(d) Your written application which includes your -
- University Transcript(s) - if you have finished more than one degree before applying for an MBA program then the official or unofficial (if the results are still awaited then the available per soft copy of the transcript or semester wise marks). The School just doesn't look at your GPA but your overall performance like which college you went to, what courses were you studying there, what was your performance like therefore keeping all that in mind is essential.
- GMAT/GRE Scores (as mentioned before)
- TOEFL/ IELTS/ PTE Test - the School discourages scores lower than 7.5 on 9 in IELTS or lower than 75 in PTE or lower than 109 on the IBT in TOEFL - therefore, whichever exam you choose to sit for please keep this minimum benchmark in mind.
- Essay or the Statement of Purpose - this is one of the most important part of your entire application as in this section you are expected to provide the selectors with a glimpse of your life thus far, all your acadmic as well as professional career and what is it that has motivated you to choose this particular program in this particular School. You have to be very precise yet give them all the necessary details that you think are essential for them to truely consider your apllication. Therefore, all colleges even apart from Harvard, stress on the statement of pupose because it helps them assess your capability and motivation to join the institution.
- Letters of Recommendation - you need 2/3 Letters of Recommendation from any of your Undergrad faculty members as an integral part of your application because these recommendations aremlike your character certificates from the previous institution, thus, telling the School how you will be a suitable student for them.
- And lastly, your Résumé - what sets you apart from the rest of the crowd is your CV/Résumé. Therefore, a strong academic as well as professional experience is very important. Also pay close attention to your extra-curriculars.
