Hello,
Joining bsc college is good idea as it acts as a backup but it gives you a thought that you are already in college (i.e time is wasted in college examinations , attending classes etc).
Dropping a year for preparation is very common as the competition in JEE entrance exam is high. More than 60% of students at top IITs and NITs are droppers.
Dropping a year doesn't matter at all in long run provided you study hard this year get into a good engineering college next year.
So if really are interested in engineering, you should take an year drop and prepare thoroughly fot the JEE exams next year.
