Forensic Sciences includes essential components such as Forensic Pathology, Psychiatry, Psychology, Forensic Medicine and Odontology (Dentistry). It is chiefly laboratory-based science consisting of related elements of Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Ballistics, the Science of Fingerprinting, Questioned Documents and Impressions.



The discipline involves crime- scene investigation including fire and explosion scenes and drug laboratories. The subject applies scientific knowledge to aid in the administration of justice, and has no boundaries as far as subjects are concerned; it makes use of all faculties of science, such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Medicine among others.



The basic criterion of eligibility needed to be met for admission to the course is a Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent qualification from a recognized educational Board, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and/ or Math as main subjects and a minimum aggregate score of 55%.

However, a few private universities in India conduct their own entrance tests for evaluating and admitting students to the course.



Admission to the course is based on the candidates performance at the 10+2 level. Institutes offering the course admit students based on whether they meet the minimum, set cut- off scores at the 10+2 level. A few institutes, however, shortlist students based on their performance in an additional entrance test conducted at their own level.
