Astronomy is the science which deals with the study of heavenly bodies.Though undergraduate level course is not available in most of the university in our country. So, To pursue career in therotical /observational astronomy , one can do B.sc in physics or mathematics. For pursuing the career in experimental astronomy ,one can do B.tech/B.E in electrical or electronic.but most of the universities offered various courses related to astronomy at masters and P.HD level. These university are IIsc Bangalore , Delhi university, jadavpur university offered course at masters level.
Indian institute of astrophysics (IIA) offers fulltime p.HD course.
Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophystechnology (IUCAA )has a regular Ph.D. programme for which applications are invited every spring from students who either possess an m.sc in Physics / Applied Mathematics / Astronomy / Computer Science or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or technology.
Joint entrance screening test (jest) is conducted at an all India level every year in the month of February for admission to Ph.D. programme. After completing the course one can easily get the placement as a research fellow in major government institutions like DRDO, ISRO .
