I will be taking my SAT exam next month so I want to know details of what happens on the test date and etc since no one I know has taken it. It would be very helpful if you could give me your email id to clarify my doubts.

Your seat is assigned, not chosen by you. Wait to be seated. Here’s what will happen next:

  1. The test coordinator will read all instructions verbatim from a manual and can answer questions only about procedure, not about test questions or content.
  2. The test coordinator will tell you when to start and stop working on each section.
  3. You must work within each section of the test only for the time allotted.
  4. You may not go back to a section once that section has ended.
  5. You may not go ahead to a new section if you finish a section early.
  6. Do not skip sections. Doing so may result in score cancellation, delays, or both.
  7. After the test is finished, the test coordinator will collect and count the test books to make sure all materials have been turned in before dismissing you from the testing room.

SAT exam is for 3 hours and an additional 50 minutes if you also have opted for an essay. Or else it is going to be Mathematics section and Evidence Based Reading and Writing. The higher the SAT score, better are the chances for top Colleges of the US. Irrespective of the test centre you have chosen, the test centres open at 7.45am and the doors are closed by 8am unless you have different information. The test starts between 8.30 to 9.00am and your seat is assigned as per the rules. Keep your Id and admission ticket handy at all times. You need to wait to be seated. The coordinator will read out all the instructions for you and remember he can answer your questions regarding the rules but not the exam paper and its contents. He/she will announce the start and end time of each section. Because this is a pen and paper mode exam, you have to be real careful. You cannot back to one section and cannot swap between sections. Let's say if you have finished Math section earlier than the allotted time, you cannot move to the next section. And if the time allotted is for Math section, you cannot go to Reading and Writing section. This may result in cancelling the results of your exam for you. Most centres give you a 10 minute and a 5 minute break. This time is for you to either to eat or drink some water or use the rest room but not to use your gadgets or any other devices. Doing so may result in the cancellation of your exam. Wait until the coordinator collects all the papers and says you can leave. For any further questions, you can always comment below. Good luck:)
