I wish to become an interior designer.. so which course is better for that, B.Arch or B.Des and what is the difference between the two?

About the B.Arch course:
- This course is a five year full time undergraduate programme. It comprises of ten semesters.
- The main subjects offered in this programme include architectural designs, drawings, appreciations; building construcion, management, sciences and services; theory of structurs, history of architecture, workshop practice.
- Eligibility for admissions is completion of 12th grade with Mathematics and English compulsarily and bare minimum 50% marks.
- Main examinations for admissions are NATA and JEE Main.
- After the completion of this course students prefer to do internships with architectural firms or professional architects in order to gain experience and broaden job prospects.
- Basic skills required in this field include communication skills, physical stamina, excellent memory, patience, team spirit, accountability, creative think, observation and leadership.
- An average salary of 8-10 Lakhs per annum is offered by jobs.
Scope of B.Arch:
- Architects are demanded in various government and private organisations.
- Job opportunities are available in the sectors of urban planning and development corporations, archaeology, railways, housing, public works etc.
- There is a lot of international prospect for architects. Recruiters come from places like USA, Australia, Dubai and UK and offer attractive career and jobs.
- As an architect you can choose to work in offices or in construction sites. You have the responsibility to design homes, shopping complexes, stadiums, hospitals, hotels, industrial complexes, apartments, schools etc.
- You can even opt for higher studies. You can do your M.Arch and Ph.D in Architecture.
About B.Des course:
- It is a course which lasts for 3-4 years and consists 6-8 semesters.
- This is a course which focuses on enriching the creative aspects of a student and combining them with the technicalities of the course, also with it the course through history explains various fields of design. The course focuses on practical knowledge and experiences along with theoretical knowledge.
- Various fields of design include interior design, product design, fashion design, jewelry design, industrial design, and graphic design.
- Different colleges have different patterns of admission. You primarily need to visit the website , fill the admission form, appear for admission tests if any and then clear the personal interview and group discussion rounds.
- The candidate applying should be an expert in drawing, he should have creative vision for all things he observes, you should know about the latest trend, have great social and communication skills and have immense amount of confidence.
Scope of B.Des:
- You can get employed in the areas of fashion media, educational institutes, textile mills, fashion accessory design, boutiques, quality control boards, fashion marketing and merchandising, export houses, free lancing for fashion houses, garment store chains, fashion show management agencies, garment manufacturing units, leather companies, jewellery houses, media houses etc.
- You can be employed as a fashion designer, cutting assistant, apparel product manager, technical designer, entrepreneur, fashion coordinator, fabric quality control manager, production pattern maker, teacher or lecturer, fashion consultant, graphic designer, outside sales representative, fashion show organizer, personal stylist, show room sales representative etc.
