If you failed to score good marks in JEE mains but managed to qualify it and then if you scored a great score in JEE advanced. Then you can get into IITs as IITs seats are distributed based on JEE advanced score whereas JEE mains score is considered for IIITs, NITs, GFTIs, and private universities seat allocation only.
Actually, I am a real example of this situation because I was just qualified in JEE mains, then I determined to secure good marks in JEE advanced.
After JEE advanced were announced I secured 22k rank in the general category and 5k rank in the OBC category. Hence I got a seat in IIT Guwahati. But due to parental and distance problems, I didn't claim it.
Hope this answer helps you.
All the best!!!
Hello manohar,
Yes there are many chances to get into iits there are many students getting into renowed colleges after scoring great in advanced.. I can say that jee mains and jee advanced papers are totally different . There is no such relation that if you have done bad in jee mains then you could not clear IIT . In jee mains , you have to rote many formulas and answer quickly and very less time for each question. In jee advanced , you have to do questions conceptually and have a effiencient time for questions .So there is lot of difference between jee mains and jee advanced.
Best of luck, be consistent in your efforts.
Hi aspirant,
It's great if you had done well in your jee advance exam. But as of current secnario the total seat available in IIT's are about 15K. So if your rank comes under 15K than surely you would be getting any of the IIT's.
