see diploma in engineering and 12th course is two different exams, however diploma in engineering is a 3 years course, there is various streams available in which you may do diploma in engineering course, like

electrical engineering

electronics and communication engineering

civil engineering

mechanical engineering

computer science engineering.

you may takes admission in diploma in engineering course by clearing entrance examination which conducts state wise, like jexpo exam for west bengal, maharastra dte conducts entrance test for diploma engineering students, delhi cet for delhi region colleges  diploma course admission. diploma entrance test can be given after passing 10th course or after clearing 12th exam, some of the institute has lateral entry admission process for diploma candidates who have completed 12th course in science stream or have completed ITI course of 2 years duration.

after completing diploma course you may also join b.tech courses from second year by clearing the lateral entry admission process.

so now you have to decide whether you want to do 12th course or do for diploma course after passing 10th examination.

Hi dear,
If you do diploma in engineering, you will get your diploma certificate after completion of 3 years of diploma.
You will get direct admission in 2nd year of B.tech of your branch.You need not have 12th certificate . Diploma certificate will serve the purpose.
