Firstly,you have to understand that Mining engineering encompasses a lot of subjects including chemistry, metallurgy, physics, safety, geology and a lot more. It also touches the basic electrical and mechanical subjects because these are part of the mining operation. More importantly, the course focuses more on mining principles which include exploration, extraction, rehabilitation and restoration. And coming to the point of fossil fuels,when they are damaged or something,One definitely needs a good mining engineer and a geologist.
Major companies in India remain Coal India,ongc,iocl and these companies recruit regularly by gate.And if you are from big college like iits and ism(best) then their won't be any problem in having job and can be placed in MNCs like Rio tinto,Schlumberger etc.
