If your 12th marks will be less than 75% aggregate,then you can not take admission in NITs or IITs or many other top government colleges.

but also many Govenment colleges eligibilty criteria is minimum 50% marks in 12th.like IPU.

Any Govenment Engineering college will not take admission directly on the basis of your 12th marks.

Either you have to go through JEE main or through individual College CET.

So u can do engeering from any college but if u want areputed college like iit, nit, iiit u must have 75% in ur top 5 subjects including english , PCM and any other subject .. nevertheless u can get admission in state colleges easily through jee main..

It depends upon how much marks you will exactly get, the top entrance exam if engineering demands you to have a minimal percentage of 75% in your 12th as a general category student. Even if you failed to score good you can give improvement next year to upgrade your percentage else you can join any private university where the cutoffs are low.

Admissions to any top government engineering colleg/university is through JEE mains and JEE advance score and the rank you have obtained in them respectively . The marks you scored in class 12th are of no use in you admission process . But yes you have to have the mininum marks to qualify the eligibility criteria of adimssions to different college/univereities of your choice.
