Hi Sandhya!
After 10th choose any stream- science, commerce or arts in which you are interested. After completing 10+2 there are two ways to become a lawyer:
- Integrated Law course - You can pursue this course right after 12th class from a reputed college. It is a dual degree program, duation is 5 years. It covers two degrees simultaneously such as B.A. + LL.B., B.Com + LL.B., B.Sc. + LL.B. etc.
- Bachelor of Law(LLB)- This course can be pursued after undergraduation (3 or 4 year long course). It is of 3 years.
After completing any of the above mentioned course, you can enrol yourself in the relevant Bar Council and start law practice in India. If you want to study more, you can pursue masters. There is no direct way to become a government lawyer in India. The Senior Judges of the court prepare the list of the lawyer who is eligible and send the list to the Government. The ruling Government will shortlist the lawyers to be their public prosecutor. To be eligible to become a government lawyer, candidate must have experience of atleast 2 years at District court and 5 years at high court. Moreover, his/her age should be between 35-45 years.
Thankyou!
