Firstly, to give the semester exam you need to have cleared vthe attendance criteria, if you have below attendance as specified then you may not be able to give the semester exam.

Secondly bif in case your hod allows you to give the semester exam then it's all in your hand how much you score. Plus cgpa depends upon assignment, practicals, vivas and internals, so if you miss all these then you won't get good cgpa.

So try to check all this before taking holidays

It depends upon your calibre and strength mainly. If you can cover all the syllabus and practicals which have already been done and can carry on the ongoing curriculum alongside, then, there is an assurance that you can get a good CGPA. However, your overall CGPA of the course will depend upon all the semester exams. So, if you by chance get good CGPA in your first semester, achieve good marks in all other semesters to get an overall good CGPA.
