If you stay in kolkata for study base then may be you getting admission in college present in kolkata..then where your college location in kolkata you will find so many mess or pg near by. And Kolkata is generally safe place.
If you just stay in kolkata then you can choose dumdum or bidhannagar or Rubi side area. Because it's very easy to transportation.
