if i write the VITEEE and do not get a placement in vellore, is it okay to check for chennai as well? is the campus as good as vellore?

Yes, as long as you choose between ECE and CSE, Chennai Campus is equally good like Vellore, when compared on basis of faculty, infrastructure or placements. Perhaps being located near IT and Corporate Hubs of Chennai, provide huge scope and impetus to training and placements at VIT Chennai Campus.
