The minimum eligibility criteria is that Candidates should have obtained a minimum of 75% marks in class 12 or equivalent exam or they must be in the top 20 percentile in their class 12 examination. For SC/ ST, the eligibility is to obtain a minimum of 65% marks in class 12 or equivalent.
So,one is not eligible with 50 percent in boards no matter,how well your JEE score is.

No its not possible since the eligibility criteria to take admission into NIT/IIIT is the candidate should have at least 75% or top 20 percentile in 12th examination.Even for the SC/ST 's the minimum percentage is about 65%.
