This year JAB has a criterion (surprisingly) in favor of the students who spoilt their board examinations due to the preparation of JEE Main or JEE Advanced.
Till last year, a candidate had to score a minimum of 75% in CBSE board or be in the top 20 percentile of the respective board calculated at par with CBSE and if unable to qualify under any of the two criterion, then improvement (to attain the minimum criterion) must be given in all five subjects, irrespective of the board in all circumstances.
This rule used to be a curb for students who could not qualify the criteria due to single subject mishap. Many gave up on the thought of JEE and prepared only for boards.
But now the new rules are really heart warming. I personally wished this to happen asap so that all the students preparing for improvement exams may now concentrate on one or two subjects solely according to boards.
The changed rule states that -
Candidates who appeared in Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2017 and wish to (or have to) reappear in 2018 with the objective to qualify through top 20 percentile cut-off criteria, should reappear in all the subjects. For such candidates, top 20 percentile cut-off for 2018 will be considered.
If a candidate has passed his/her Class XII (or equivalent) in 2017 and wishes to improve his/her aggregate marks to meet the “aggregate marks of 75% (or 65% for SC, ST and PwD) criterion”, he/she can reappear for any number of subjects he/she wishes for improvement. The percentage marks in this situation will be calculated by considering the marks obtained in 2017 or 2018, whichever is higher, in the respective subjects, in his/her two attempts in 2017 and 2018.
The above two points perfectly imply what needs to be done.
So appear for improvement in one or two subjects and get done with the pending parts of your journey towards IITs and NITs.
P.S. Anything else that needs to be said will be added if relevant to the topic.
