Solution : The area of a triangle,
$\text{Area} = \frac{1}{2} \times \text{base} \times \text{height}$
Given that the base of the triangle is 12 cm and the height (or the altitude) is 8 cm.
$\text{Area} = \frac{1}{2} \times 12 \, \text{cm} \times 8 \, \text{cm} = 48 \, \text{cm}^2$
Hence, the correct answer is 48 cm 2 .
