⇒ $(x+\frac{1}{x})^2=(–2)^2$
⇒ $x^2+\frac{1}{x^2}+2=4$
⇒ $x^2+\frac{1}{x^2}=2$
So, $(x^4+\frac{1}{x^4})=(x^2+\frac{1}{x^2})^2-2=2^2-2$
⇒ $(x^4+\frac{1}{x^4})=4-2$
⇒ $(x^4+\frac{1}{x^4})=2$
