if there is not much difference in cs and it then why there is lot of difference in their closing ranks??
Hello!
This question bothered me too a couple of years ago. The reason why cutoff marks for CS is more than IT ,despite the fact that both branches are almost identical are:
- CS is the older branch. IT is a branch that came out of CS a very few years ago. The same applies with IS(Information Science) which is similar to IT.
- Though companies prefer CS and IT equally most of the time, you can still find that the number of placements in CS is usually more than IT, suggesting, there are certain companies that prefer CS over IT due to some subjects or topics that differ in them.
- If you are applying for government jobs then it makes a difference. CS has better chances than IT.
- Almost all the subjects are same in CS and IT, however, 2 to 3 subjects differ. GATE syllabus has much more similarity to CS curriculum than IT or IS.
- And finally, its trend that creates this gap between CS and IT.
