Hi nagamani,
IIT Kharagpur is one of the best engineering colleges in the country.
Mining engineering is about the interdisciplinary aspects of both science and engineering including mine-surveying, mining mechanisation and industrial minerals.
Mining Engineering is unique to IIT Kharagpur among all other IITs. It was set up in 1956 and the department offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs.

What about placements and packages in mining engineering
Companies like Coal India Limited (CIL), Tata Steel, and Vedanta are dream companies for the mining department and they all recruit from top colleges like IIT.Packages are usually 14Lpa if you are the best of your batch.Other hiring companies include Ambuja Cement, Hindalco, Gainwell, etc who pay around 8Lpa
