Being the first of its kind, the department of ocean engineering and naval architecture was started by IIT kharagpur in 1952 . During the last 60 years of its existence the department has made significant contributions to the development of shipbuilding and shipping industries in the country. It is a superb choice if you are interested in making ship designing and manufacturing your career. It is more mathematical based so if you are interested in mathematics then this is best choice for you.

The department of mining engineering was started in 1956. The department has introduced a modern Mining Engineering curriculum in India, taking full advantage of the well- develped infrastructure for technical education at the institute. If you are interested in working underground and in natural resources then this is a good choice.

Between the two, IIT kharagpur's ocean engineering and naval architecture is better option.

It totally depends on your choice if you want to be in ocean or underground mines. First you think what you want to be. When you're getting good option, go for what you want. No course is less or more important , its all based on your strength. People from lesser colleges have achieved greater heights.

Ocean engineering Naval architecture at IIT kharagpur is one of the best choice if you are interested in making a career in ship designing and manufacturing , marine engineering. Ocean engineering is more mathematical based so if you are leaned towards mathematics and interested in maths it is one of the best innovative choices to make for your career . So it depends upon where your choice lies . Both are very good options and have a bright future . Both are not tough . If you go for mining engineering you can also apply for PSUs . See where your interest lies.

You can opt any one of that based on your interest. Mining Engineering and Ocean and Naval Architeture Engineering are also good. All these are different streams and can opt  any of them and had good scope in future for placements. Now you choose wisely based upon your interest.
