As you are a student of microbiology definitely you can give GATE exam for Biotechnology . Biotechnology is very broad area  in which microbiology is its part.  After doing  Msc in Biotechnology you can be a Biochemist , Microbiologist, Validation technician, SRF, JRF etc.  for your reference i am attaching some links-

Yeah! You can give the GATE Biotechnology but there are no as such courses through Biotechnology which you can take admission in after your BSc. Now I would say if you are interested in the MSc program in Biotechnology then go for the IIT JAM examination in which you are also eligible and you can do the course of MSc from the IIT's/NIT's/CFTI's.
