Hello Khushboo Pokhriyal,

Yes, after doing your 12th grade with physics, chemistry and biology you can apply for a Bachelor degree in psychology be it a B.A. or a B.Sc. course.

About Bachelor of Arts (BA) Psychology:

  • BA in psychology is an undergraduate level programme which goes on for a duration of three years.
  • The eligibility required for this course is the completion of 12th grade examinations with a minimum of 50% and with English as a core subject.
  • This course basically allows a student to analyse how the mind works in different situations, how it formulates perception, and what are the external and internal factors which influence the working of the human brain.
  • Admission are done both offline and online. There is no standardised examination for this course. Individual universities release application forms, immediately after this they announce their cut-off and accordingly all formalities are done. The forms are released mid-May after the announcements of most of the 12th results from most of India's recognised boards.
  • After the applying candidate satisfies the set cut-off, the students are called to universities for an university based written examination, then there is a personal interview session followed by a group discussion. Based on the results of all the three the student is given admission to the university. The results of the same are released by the first or second week of June.

About Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Clinical Psychology:

  • Clinical psychology is a field of psychology which is an integration of science, clinical knowledge and theory for the purpose of prevention and relief of a client's psychological distress in order to inculcate personal well-being and development.
  • It is one of the most taken up fields of psychology.
  • The specialty areas under clinical psychology include child mental health, learning disabilities, adult mental health, emotional disturbances, geriatrics, substance abuse, health psychology etc.
  • The course is two years long and it has four semesters.
  • In order to be eligible for this course you need to have done your Bachelor's with a minimum of 50% marks from any recognized board or university.
  • Most of the universities conduct entrance examinations for admissions into their M.Sc. degree courses.

However, I would suggest that you take up your post-graduate studies abroad. The quality of clinical psychology is far way better abroad then what it is in India. India has many opportunities in M.A. courses, however it lacks when it comes to M.Sc. courses.

All the best!

I hope this answers your queries.

Dear Khushboo, yes you can pursue BA in Psychologybwith your 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Gor pursuing BA in Psychology you should have completed your 10+2 in Science stream with a minimum aggregate of 50%. The mode of admission depends on the college/institution that you are aiming for. Few Institutions conduct Entrance examination while few Institutions conduct admissions based on merit in your 10+2. Now for pursuing M.Sc in Clinical Psychology, you should have studied Psychology as a subject at your Bachelor's level. Christ University, St.Agnes College, University of Calicut and Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya are the top Institutions for this course.
