There are many government fields who recruit diploma holders here  I am providing some information regarding government jobs
Government jobs after diploma can be
categorized as central government jobs,
railway jobs, state government jobs and PSU
jobs.
Central governnment jobs- Junior engineer
job in central engineering services (CPWD),
central water commission, survey of India,
MES etc -you can apply here through SSC
which conducts exam for junior exam (two
tier).
Railways - RRB recruits junior engineer
through exam which it conducts every year
State government jobs: State government
also recruits junior engineer.
PSU jobs : PSU like DMRC, AAI,DDA, RITE
also conducts exam for junior exams
Conclusion - above 4 options are good and
job will also be technical.

Basically students mainly prefer to complete their B.Tech after completion of diploma in engineering.Lateral entry is provided directly in the 2nd year of B.Tech.Therenis better scope after completing B.Tech.There are many companies where polytechnic students are recruited.There are jobs available in the government sector.Design engineer,Maintenance Engineer,Data Warehouse Engineer, are some of the job profiles where candidates are offered a better salary package based upon the work experience and also the degree.
