Yes you can most certainly do that ; but be careful while making such decisions. Whatever exam you've applied for, let it be NEET or JEE main there is a strict policy to provide EWS certificate before verification process begins. But, I'd like to make it more clear for you!
If you attain a seat through EWS reservation rank, than you must provide the EWS certificate. So, make sure to have it prepared before the month of May 2020.
If somehow you wind up not having EWS certificate even though you've applied saying you've EWS certificate. Than you need to go into verification process with your general rank. That's the only way to get an admission, if you end up not having an EWS certificate.
