Since, you have got good 56 in GATE under OBC category you will have lot of good things coming your way. You have folloing choices.
1. Higher Studies.
You have good chance of getting into NITs. Even if you cannot get into NITs, sure shot guarnted you will get M. Tech in any state run university or Priviate University. And it comes with a bonus since you are GATE qualified AICTE will provide you scholarship for 2 years. You will paid 12400/- as stiped per month if you pursue M. Tech in any AICTE affilated college.
2. PSUs
Now coming to PSUs you know how difficult the competition is out there, but with your score you can apply for following PSUs.
A. AAI
B. BEML
C. BHEL
D. NTPC
E. POWERGRID
3. Junior Research Fellow (JRF)
Many IITs and IISc take GATE qualified graduate as a Project Assistant. You will be given a task of completing project. They will provide you stipend starting from 20k.

according to previous year's cut-off and this year's expected cut-off you're having chances at many psu's like NTPC but the cut-off score will vary with different year.and also it depends upon your category and different psu's.to know previous year cut-off of different psu's,refer this link for your reference.
