I'm in 12 standard from medical field. I want to study mbbs abroad with an scholarship. What are the procedure and how can I apply
hi shakshi, i have researched all the opportunities when i was like you, trust me, the best way is to do your MBBS here and do your pg abroad, cos doing UG in good countries like USA is very very hectic after passing out 12 th, even am looking forward to do my surgery residency in USA , so i will tell you how u can do in various countries
USA- clear all the 3 steps of USMLE , attend interview and get your residency in you desired field
UK- u need to clear PLAB atep 1 and step 2 and then work there to do your PG
australia-clear AMC but mind it, it has many disadvantages
NZ-if you clear usmle u r eligible for new zealand as well, you just need to clear NZREX which is a clinical exam. good luck
If you search the Internet for the best colleges in the field of Medical Science, you will come up with a list of top 10 which include universities mainly from the USA and the UK along with a number of universities from Canada, Sweden, Bulgaria, Japan and many more that are present in the top 50.
This is one of the places where we face our first problem which comes in the form of a list of approved foreign colleges by the MCI. Now this list contains only two universities from the top 10 so you know it's better if you decide to pursue your career abroad meaning you continue it entirely abroad rather than come back to India because that would be problematic for you if you do it from an unapproved university.
Since most of the top universities are from the USA and the UK, I will tell you the procedure of admission for both of these countries.
First let's go with the admission procedure in the USA:
1. Since you are doing your 10 + 2 in India, it is counted as 5 semesters in the USA and the requirement is 9 semesters. Hence, an additional course of four semesters (about 16 months) is required, which is known as pre medical. This grants you a B.Sc degree.
2. The Bachelor of Science degree is necessary for you to be eligible for the MCAT exam which stands for Medical College Admission Test and it is a prerequisite that you have an exceptionally good score in this test so that you may be selected since international students already have a very less percentage of chances of selection.
3. The MCAT exam can be taken unlimited times but only thrice in one year. Once you are satisfied with your MCAT score, you can go ahead and apply for the universities that you think are appropriate for you (in terms of fee structure and other expenditures).
4. The fee structure in the medical colleges of USA have an average fees of about $50,000 per year which is about 32 lacs in Indian currency. The overall fees depends on the course duration. Due to this very reason, many colleges are requesting most students to consider before they apply for MBBS in their college.
5. Last but not the least, MBBS is known as MD in the USA.
Now, let's look at the admission procedure in UK:
1. Your first concern over here is to achieve exceptional scores in your grade 12 that is above 95% in Biology, Chemistry and English language mainly.
2. Next you'll have to clear the TOEFL exam with good scores.
3. Next comes the UKCAT exam. It stands for UK Clinical Aptitude Test (The result is valid for upto a year).
4. You may be required to submit letters of recommendation or statements including your physical condition, achievements and extracurricular activities.
5. Interviews conducted by the colleges is the final step. They vary from college to college.
As for the scholarships, I'll get back to you soon because I have almost reached my word limit. :D
Hope this helps.
All the best!
