As far as eligibility is concerned they will not restrict You to appear in the examination as there is not any criterion for qualification so you are free to appear for GRE, But the institute set their own criterion for admission and GRE scores are used mostly by US and Canada universities for admission into Postgraduate courses, So there is no any advantage of appearing for GRE in the first year itself.
