In order to initiate preparation for any exam, candidates need to be well acquainted with the syllabus, CAT consists of three sections with their respective syllabus and recommended books are as follows-
Quantitative Ability consists of time and work, simple and compound interest, time, speed and distance, probability, geometry and mensuration, number system, basic arithmetic, algebra, permutation and combination, profit, loss, discounts, trigonometry, logarithms and sets.

As you are now in first year of your college so you have enough time prepare for CAT. There are many things which you need to know that you can appear in CAT in your final year of college even before the result of the last sem. You can also apply after completing your college. You have to score 50% in you college academics to be eligible in CAT. There are 100 questions in CAT exam which you have to solve in 3 hours on a computer based exam. There are three sections Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantative Ability. You will have to solve each section in 1 hour of time span. For preparation you can study any standard book which specifically is for CAT. There is book by mc graw hill education publication which is the best book for Quantative ability. For reading sections, you can increase your vocabulary and reading habits by daily reading anything. Daily reading will enhance your grasping power.
