Most of the institutes offering M.A. in Criminology have restricted the eligibility criteria to only those students who have completed their Bachelors degree in either Arts or Science.
However some colleges allow students who have completed Graduation in any discipline with 50% marks in aggregate or 45% marks in one of the following subjects: Public Admin., Pol. Science, History, Psychology, Economics, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology, Anthropology, any discipline of Management, Arts or Social Sciences.
So if any of the above subjects were in your curriculum in graduation then it will be easy for you to apply.
Now coming to how commerce field will help you in criminology studies. Subjects like Economics and legal studies provide with an insight into analytical decision making and case solving abilities. Data collection and interpretation is taught well in commerce subjects and this skill is very useful in criminological stuides. Other Skills Required to become a Criminologist are:
1. Analytical Skills : You should have the ability to predict effective or solve complicated crime situations to produce well structured results.
2. Data Collection : The collected data on the spot of crime should be informative and understanding. The way of collecting data should be organized and clean.

6. Research Skills : First, you have to know the research techniques before investigating any case. Research is very important in every field of investigation.
7. Knowledge of Computers : The knowledge of computers and internet is necessary nowadays. The all sources of collecting information and gathering are mostly done through internet.
As knowledge of criminology requires the use of sixth sense of a person along with the necessary educational qualification and the required set of skills, the interest area in this field of study are causes and prevention of crime, understanding the criminal behavior, evaluation of criminal justice agencies, Sociology of Law and Crime Statistics.

Criminology is the emerging career in India and the abroad, one, who has degree course or the doctoral course called as the criminologist. In India many of detective agencies are establishing and requiring the professionals in criminology.
There is a good job opportunity in the field of criminology. This field has various offers for the scientist, research assistant, criminologist, forensic scientist and an investigator. As a criminologist, you can earn around Rs. 3 to 4 lacs per year. With some good experience in this field you can earn attractive salary packages in both sectors.
