Important points to remember from phylum porifera :
- Body Wall Has outer pinacoderm, inner choanoderm made up of choanocytes or collar cells and a gelatinous acellular mesenchyme between them.
- They have Canal Sytem. It has minute pores on body wall called ostia through which water enters in central cavity- spongocoel from where it moves out through the osculum.
- Digestion is intracellular.
- Skeleton may be calcareous or siliceous spicular or made up of fine spongin fibres or all.
- They are hermaphrodites
- Asexual reproduction by budding and gemmule formation
- Sexually by gamete formation
- Fertilization is internal
- Development is indirect.
