Solution : In the original mixture, the ratio of water to milk is 2 : 3. This means that out of every 5 parts of the mixture, 2 parts are water and 3 parts are milk.
In a 20 kg mixture, the amount of water is $\frac{2}{5}$ × 20 = 8 kg, and the amount of milk is $\frac{3}{5}$ × 20 = 12 kg
Some amount of water is to be added so that this mixture contains water and milk in the ratio of 1 : 1.
This means the amount of water should be equal to the amount of milk = 12 kg
Therefore, the required amount of water in the mixture = 12 kg – 8 kg = 4 kg
Hence, the correct answer is 4 kg.
