IN AQUEOUS MEDIUM,WHY DO AMINES SHOW VIOLATION IN THEIR ORDER OF BASIC CHARACTER?
Hello aspirant
The basicity of an amine in aqueous solution depends upon the stability of the ammonium cation which further depends on a combination of three factors i.e steric hindernace of alkyl groups,+inductive effect of alkyl group and extent of hydrogen bonding with water molecules.
Therefore the order slightly differs in aqueous phase.(2>1>3>nh3)
Hope this helps
