in B.Sc what are best reference books for physics especially for mechanics
You can try for Concepts of Physics by H.C. Verma if you had not read it earlier in 11th and 12th standard. The language of this book is too simple for better understanding and there are enough solved example in this book to grasp the concepts easily.
Specially for mechanics you can go for following books.
- Engineering Mechanics by Timoshenko and Young
- Engineering Mechanics by Meriam and Kraige
- Fundamentals of Physics by Halliday, Resnick and Walker
I think these books are enough to grasp the fundamental concepts of mechanics. For solving complex problems I can refer to Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov.
Here are some reference books which might be helpful
1.A Treatise on General Properties of Matter by Chatterjee and Sengupta
2.M.R. Spiegel ( Schaum's Outline Series-McGraw Hill) for Vector Analysis
3.Classical Mechanics by J.Goldstein
4.The Feynman lectures on Physics-Vol I (Addison- Wesley)-
5.Kleppner, R.J. Kolenkow, 1973, McGraw-Hill.
6.Mechanics, Berkeley Physics, vol.1, C. Kittel, W. Knight,2007, Tata McGraw-Hill.
7.Physics, Resnick, Halliday and Walker 8/e. 2008, Wiley.
8.Analytical Mechanics, G.R. Fowles and G.L. Cassiday. 2005, Cengage Learning.
9.Mechanics, D.S. Mathur, S.Chand and Company Limited, 2000
10.University Physics. F.W Sears, M.W Zemansky, H.D Young 13/e, 1986, Addison Wesley
Physics for scientists and Engineers with Modern Phys., J.W.Jewett, R.A.Serway, 2010,Cengage Learning
Theoretical Mechanics, M.R. Spiegel, 2006, Tata McGraw Hill
Hope this helps
