Hey,

both the sectors are really good and has a lot of opportunities. It depends on your interest and the college you are in whether you will get a good job or not. The earnings are relatively expected to be more in finance but the number of jobs are available more in marketing. So choose accordingly.

Hi Padmavathi!

If you're keen about getting into an MBA this year, then it is important for you to understand which specialization suits you the best. MBA Finance and MBA Marketing or PGDM is the highly opted course if one is keen on getting into exploring different roles at the corporate level or banks. Usually, the major private banks like HDFC,ICICI, Axis, SC, hire MBA graduates for different roles. It's important for you to know which role you want to take up.

MBA Finance

If you specialize in MBA finance, these are the following fields you can work in.

  • Corporate Finance
  • Risk management
  • Treasury
  • Loans
  • Equity

Each role provides you with multiple opportunities and with some certifications like FRM, CFA, you can become specialized in it.

MBA Marketing

If you specialize in MBA Marketing, these are the following fields you can work in banks.

  • Relationship manager responsible to bring leads
  • Brand management
  • Product management
  • Advertising
  • Marketing analytics

If your idea is to work for an FMCG firm then MBA marketing provides more opportunities and if you're keen in working in banks and related field, then finance should help. That being said, you can opt for the specialization in PGDM course in the second year which will help you make an informed decision.

If you are looking for a specific college in banking there is NIBM and if you have interest only in general banking, there are government examinations you can choose from.

National Institute Of Banking & Management

  • Factors to consider - Established By RBI And Brand Value. Apply For This Course Only If One Is Interested In Banking And Financial Services.
  • Fees  5.5 Lakhs
  • Average Salary - 6 Lakhs
  • Recruiters - IDFC, Cognizant, ICICI, HDFC, Axis Bank, CRISIL, Deloitte, Yes Bank And Many Other Companies In The Banking Sector.

IBPS- PO, CLERK, SBI-PO, CLERK, Various Bank exams

If you're keen about securing a job in a PSU, this exam will help you get there. The syllabus is pretty much the same but will be focused on Aptitude, logical reasoning, and English both in the prelims and the mains stage. You will also have a personal interview stage here. The perks of the job are great with a decent salary, house rent allowance and other yearly perks but one has to be ready to move to rural places depending upon the posting.

RBI- GRADE B, Assistant.

This again is a higher level bak examination but the pattern is quite different. You'd have to be thorough with finance and economics before you attempt this exam and you should go through social issues. Apart from that aptitude and reasoning skills is also quite important.

Good luck!
