There is no any such problem occur. Your friend  can still give exam,  don't stress over this.

Moreover if there would have been any such problem with photograph or thumb print, a message is dropped to make required correction. If your friend got any such message and still they did not correct then they are not eligible otherwise stop thinking about all this.

And yes, most important , if you have got the admit card that means no one can stop you from giving exam for this small issue.

NTA has closed the correction window on July 15th after opening it for the 3rd time. If the photo has not been corrected all these times, unfortunately you cannot make any changes to the application form at this point in time. Now there are 2 things to it. If you have uploaded a photograph horizontally the first time and did not change it subsequently. If you have not received any notification from NTA regarding this, then technically, NTA should have felt it is acceptable. But if you uploaded a horizontal photo either during the 2nd or 3rd correction window, NTA did not send any notifications for these corrections in uploaded photographs and so it might be problematic. The application form should have uploaded images as  mentioned in https://medicine.careers360.com/articles/neet-2020-photo-size-format-documents and a horizontally uploaded photograph is not acceptable.
