In UPSC prelims there are 2 subjects - General Studies and Civil Services Aptitude Test .In UPSC main there are 9 papers and this includes 2 qualifying papers and the rest 7 papers are calculated for ranking. UPSC also provides optional subject , candidates have to choose one optional for the mains exam .The optional consists of 2 papers and each paper considers for 250 marks. Aspirants are allowed to choose from the list of optional subjects and it also includes literature subjects like English and Indian languages.
