In which year should we start preparing for gate exam? I'm studying.....2nd b tech at present.
Hey there
If you have just gone to 2nd year then you are really very cautious about your career as you have started thinking about gate from now. So every college do not have good placements so students want to give gate. I think that the right time to start the preparation is by 2nd year which means whatever you are taught in the college just read it deeply and solve problems as much as you can you will be benefited both in semester and in gate.
Good luck
Its better to Start your GATE preparation from 3rd year of your Engineering. In your second year you will be having all the core subjects related to you stream in Engineering (like CSE, IT, ECE etc ). You have to concentrate on them so that you can have strong basics with good foundation. And also GATE syllabus will also be having the courses you study in your undergraduation. So if you can concentrate on them then itself it can be a great help to you. Make a proper plan so that you can manage time between your regular academics and GATE preparation. Just check the below link for a rough idea of the syllabus (if you are attempting computer science paper).

All the best !
Hello aspirant,
It varies person to person ,if your learning abilities are good and you are a kind of hardworking person then you can easily cover the syllabus in one year ,but it's also a fact that In last year there would be a burden of projects in btech so ,most of the times it's better to start preparing from 3rd year as two years are enough for preparation for a hard-working candidate
On the other hand if you don't want to make the preparation much difficult and you are a kind of person who likes to prepare in little lilltle portion then you can start your preparation from 2nd year ,but one thing is common you have to do hardwork in last year before the gate exam so proper dedicatiom required for cracking this exam
Hope it helps
