Correct Answer: 1878

Solution : The correct answer is 1878 .

In British India, the Vernacular Press Act was a law passed in 1878 that limited the freedom of the Indian-language (i.e., non-English) press. The Viceroy's Council of India, led by Viceroy Lytton, approved the Act by a unanimous vote. This law required the editor of a Vernacular newspaper to have the police review the content before it could be published.
