The Indian Institute of Astrophysics is a research institution especially constructed for researching Astronomy, Astrophysics, and topics related to Physics. This institution was originally founded in 1786 as an observatory institution and with time and development of the status of the institution changed, in the year 1971, it was considered as an autonomous society; the Indian Institute of Astrophysics at Bangalore. It also has many other observatories in Kodaikanal, Kavalur, and other locations.
The Indian Institute of Astrophysics offers integrated M.Tech with Ph.D. and other research-oriented Post-Doctoral Fellowships. The Integrated M.Tech with Ph.d. course is offered by the IIA combined with Calcutta University, the Ph.D. programs or courses offered by the institution jointly with Pondicherry University. Admission to various programs is done via various entrance exams followed by a Personal Interview. For the Post-Doctoral candidates, the university organizes a 4 round of admission conducted every year, held every 3 months.
Eligibility-

For Ph.D. such as in M.Sc in Physics, Integrated M.Sc Physics, B.E., M.E, M.Tech & so no. The minimum eligibility required is the candidate need to have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from class 10 onward

The aspirants must possess an All India Rank in the range between 1-250 in GATE or JEST exam or have qualified in UGC- CSIR or UGC-NET (JRF) exam or a currently valid INSPIRE/ KVPY fellowship

Admission to the program is also done based on the IIA Screening Test also known as IIAST which is conducted at multiple centers in India
IIA Bangalore offers several postgraduate specialization programs. The M.Tech + Ph.D. course with a duration of 6 Years, out of which 2 years is dedicated for a masters’ degree and the postdoctoral program is for 2 years, with a 1-year extension. Eligibility required for this course is, the aspirant must have a BE/ B.tech in Optics and Optoelectronics/ Radio Physics and Electronics/ Electrical/ Instrumentation/ Electronics and Communications/ Computer Science and Engineering Or a M.Sc degree in Electronics Science/ Applied Mathematics/ Applied Physics/ Physics from a UGC/ AICTE recognised Institution. Candidates who completed their B.Sc Hons in related Fields also can apply for this course.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship-
IIA offers different Post-Doctoral Fellowship programs. And the minimum eligibility required for this program is the aspirant must have a valid degree of M.Sc, or Integrated M.Sc in relevant subjects, ME, M.Tech and Integrated ME/ M.Tech in relevant subjects such as Computer Science, Physics, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Photonics, Optics, Opto-Electronics, Applied Physics Engineering, Radio Physics & Electronics, etc. Candidates having an M.phil degree in Applied Physics, Photonics, Optics, Physics, Instrumentation, etc can apply for this course.
The selection process of this course involves an in-depth analysis of the application form that the candidate has to send to the authority 3 weeks before the beginning of the review process.
