Periods are not infectious protein particles they are just proteinaceous molecules which can cause diseases which not a specific viral etiology but prions are basically misfolded proteins the mother protein of which is prpc which gets converted to the mutagenic form prpsc

various diseases including Kuru disease, crossville jakob disease, bovine spongiform encephalopathy as well as Alzheimer's disease has been attributed to this etiology apart from the primary amoebic meningoencephalitis and pml caused by severe measles virus infection as a long time see equally having prions as their basic pathophysiology

Prions have distinct extracellular form but the extracellular form is entirely protein.The prion particle does not contain any nucleic acid however,it is infectious and prions are known to cause a variety of diseases in animals I hope this information helps you.
