Dear Pradhumn,
Since Information Technology (and associated topics such as computer science, information systems, decision science, management information systems, management science) is a career field on it’s own, I think the answer to the question is that it is very good for a career. In fact, there are many people who do well in IT.
As with computer science, my recommendation is to never rest on the degree, though. It’s important that any programmer (computer science, software engineering, etc.) keep learning and transitioning to new technologies and new programming languages. Increasingly, the field requires continuous learning.
Hope I have made myself clear.
Best of Luck!
