is 10th and 12th marks is important to take admission in good mba college?
Hi Shourya,
Yes, having a good 10 th /12 th score is very important to get yourself admitted into a good B-School to pursue your MBA. A lot of aspirants every year dream of joining country’s best MBA colleges to pursue for their post-graduation. And rightly so, because of the immense competition and education becoming commercialised nowadays, it is required that one should get one’s MBA degree from a prestigious college to get the right worth for their investments. Hence an MBA degree from top B-Schools is a must for betterment of their career.
A lot of Tier 1 and Tier 2 MBA colleges give high importance to academics. Leading B-Schools such as IIMs give a weightage of 40% to academics. A percentage of around 80% is the minimum criteria in academics for top 5 IIMs. The reason why many B-Schools look at your astonishing academic record is that they look at how well you cope up with intense syllabus. Another criterion that top B-Schools look in a candidate is the consistency in their academic records. Hence, a B-School is more likely to intake a candidate with 80%, 85%, 87%, in 10 th , 12 th , and Undergrad than 60%, 70%, 90% respectively. If you want to get in top 10 then, more than 85 in 10th and 12th class and more than 80 percent in graduation is required because more than 80% marks will put you in good academic scale and then you will be left with CAT.
Don’t worry if your academics are not too good, there are many students who got into IIMs with low academics. Try to score at least 99.xx percentile to get into top IIMs. Many of the aspirants face this dilemma that can an average student get into IIMs? Yes, there are some IIMs that take the factor of excellent academic background at both school and college level, but there are other B-Schools like IIM Lucknow which doesn’t require their student’s intake to be absolutely nerd. Every IIM has a different set of calculation which they use to qualify students for their MBA program. For example, IIM Bangalore gives a high weightage to work experience than other factors and chart out a formula to make it as an eligibility criterion. Below is a table that shows how much a B-School weights a student’s academic record.

There are many other private B-Schools which have a relaxed constraint over this. IIMs are tough with low academics as one has to then solely depend upon CAT scores, one can easily try their hands over other B-Schools with low academic requirements as shown below,

Hello sourya.
It's not like that you mandatory have a to score very good marks in 10th and 12th. But yes these are very much important in most of the cases. Few top colleges have separate exams for admission. Some on the basis of graduation . But in general cases you have to deal with it at the time of interview.
